Making History with the Leander Historical Preservation Commission

This week, I had the unique honor of using my drone to help the Leander Historical Preservation Commission bring the past into focus. The project was simple in concept but powerful in execution: re-create one of the first photographs of Leander, but with a modern view from above.

Standing behind the controls of my drone, I was struck by how a single image can connect us across generations. Matching the angle and perspective of that original photo required patience and precision, but when I lined up the shot, I felt like I was standing in the shoes of the photographer who first captured Leander more than a century ago. Only this time, I had the advantage of a bird’s-eye view.

Preserving the Story of Leander

That’s what makes the work of the Leander Historical Preservation Commission so meaningful. They ensure that as our city grows, we don’t lose sight of where we started. From protecting landmarks to supporting community projects like this one, the Commission plays a vital role in keeping our history alive for future generations.

As a Leander resident and content creator, it was an honor to contribute to that mission. Being able to blend modern technology with historic storytelling showed me just how powerful visual media can be in preserving a community’s identity.

Why Drone Work Matters

This project also highlights the value of drone services beyond traditional photography. Aerial imagery brings new perspectives—whether it’s for real estate, local businesses, construction, or, in this case, historic preservation. Drones allow us to see familiar places in unfamiliar ways, uncovering details and stories that might otherwise go unnoticed.

For me, this project was more than a technical exercise. It was a reminder that behind every drone flight is an opportunity to capture something lasting.
